Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to common questions from our community of organic cultivators, homesteaders, and regenerative farmers.
Legal & Compliance
Are these clones legal?
Clones exist in a gray area under the 2018 Farm Bill. We ship all clones in vegetative state, tested below 0.3% T-H-C, in compliance with federal hemp regulations. However, the legality of growing these genetics varies significantly by state, county, and municipality.
It is your sole responsibility to verify that possession and cultivation are legal in your jurisdiction before placing an order. We cannot provide legal advice. Consult your local agricultural extension or legal counsel if you have questions about your specific location.
Our Terms & Conditions include a full legal disclaimer on this topic.
Why are clones still legal when seeds aren’t?
The 2018 Farm Bill was recently revised to close loopholes in hemp-derived products. Seeds were directly addressed in the revision and are now restricted. Clones, however, were not explicitly mentioned in the revision language. Until they are directly addressed in law, they remain in the gray area—neither fully legal nor fully illegal.
This is why Home Grower continues to operate: we navigate the current regulatory landscape responsibly while it evolves.
Do you ship to all states?
We ship to states where clones are not explicitly prohibited. However, because legality varies by local jurisdiction, we recommend verifying your local laws before ordering. If you’re unsure, contact us at collect@homegrower.store and we can discuss your specific location.
Product & Quality
What strains do you carry?
We currently offer 13 heritage and modern cultivars, including:
- Classic/Old School Genetics: Strawberry Cough, BTY OG, Meow OG, Irene OG, Tahoe OG, Kush Co OG, King Louis XIII OG, Skywalker OG, Bloomington Headband
- Modern Collections: Skycuddler Kush, GG4, ZE CHEM, Hash Burger
Six new strains are coming within 60 days. Subscribe to our newsletter or check back regularly for updates.
How healthy are the clones when they arrive?
All clones leave our facility fully rooted, hardened off, and ready to transplant. They are raised under organic integrated pest management with zero exposure to carcinogenic or petroleum-based chemicals. However, plant health after delivery depends on proper handling during transit, appropriate acclimation, and your growing conditions. We provide detailed acclimation guidance with every order.
Can I see your mother plants or facility?
We’re working on adding professional photography of our operation, mother plants, and shipping process to the website. For now, if you have specific questions about genetics or cultivation practices, reach out to us at collect@homegrower.store. We’re happy to discuss our operation directly.
What’s the difference between your clones and other sources?
Home Grower brings 50+ years of combined cultivation and genetics expertise. Our mother plants are maintained under strict organic protocols with no synthetic pesticides or harmful chemicals. We work exclusively with trusted breeders and carefully preserve heritage genetics. Every clone is cut from plants we personally manage and trust.
Our warranty policy (see below) reflects our confidence in clone viability.
Shipping & Delivery
How are clones shipped?
Clones ship in custom-engineered boxes with:
- 12″x12″x6″ internal dimensions
- 1-inch Rmax insulation (R-value 6.0)
- 15-ounce ice brick for temperature stability
- Plants in a Box clamshells with integrated LED lights to maintain photoperiod during transit
This system maintains optimal conditions across all seasons and transit times.
When do orders ship?
We ship Monday and Tuesday primarily. Orders received by 8 PM Sunday will ship the following Monday or Tuesday. Midweek orders received by 8 PM Friday may ship Saturday if volume permits. We use USPS Priority Mail exclusively.
How long does shipping take?
Typical transit time is 3-5 business days depending on destination. Tracking information is automatically emailed to you via Shippo upon shipment.
What if my package is lost?
If tracking shows your package as lost in transit or it fails to arrive, contact us immediately at collect@homegrower.store with your order number and tracking information. We will reship your entire order at no cost, no questions asked.
Can I expedite shipping?
We offer USPS Priority Mail only. Expedited or express options are not available. Our standard shipping provides optimal clone protection across all conditions.
Where should I ship my order?
For the safest arrival of your clones, we recommend shipping to an address where:
- Someone is home to receive the package. This allows you to unpack and acclimate clones immediately upon arrival—critical for plant health.
- The address is NOT a standard metal mailbox. Packages left in direct sunlight can overheat quickly, even in temperate climates.
- Ideally, use a UPS Store box or USPS lockers in your area. Our boxes fit perfectly into standard USPS lockers and UPS Store drop-boxes. Once delivered, your clones are safe, secure, and typically in climate-controlled environments. You can retrieve them at your convenience.
- If shipping to a residential address, use your home address or a trusted neighbor. Ensure someone is home to bring packages inside immediately.
The safest shipments arrive directly to hands, get unpacked right away, and go into proper growing conditions immediately. If you have questions about your specific address, ask our chatbot or email collect@homegrower.store.
Warranty & Replacements
What if clones arrive dead?
If clones arrive dead, mushed out, or non-viable due to heat damage or transit conditions, contact us immediately at collect@homegrower.store with:
- Photos of the damaged clones
- A detailed description of the condition
- Your order number
Contact us within 24 hours of delivery for fastest processing. We authorize replacement in approximately 9 out of 10 cases. Replacement clones ship on our next available shipping date at no additional cost.
What if my clones fail after I receive them?
If clones arrive alive but wilt, droop, or show severe stress in the first 2-3 days after transplanting, allow a few days for recovery in proper conditions. If they don’t rebound, contact us at collect@homegrower.store with photos and a description of symptoms.
We evaluate replacement cases individually. For example, if you receive a 4-pack and 3 thrive while 1 fails to establish, we’ll replace that 1 clone at no charge.
Do you offer refunds?
We do not issue refunds on shipped clones. Our solution to any issue is always replacement. This policy reflects our confidence in clone viability and our commitment to ensuring you receive living, healthy genetic material.
How long is my warranty good for?
Dead-on-arrival claims must be reported within 24 hours of delivery. Stalled or underperforming clones should be reported within the first 2-3 days after transplanting. See our full Terms & Conditions for complete warranty details.
Care & Acclimation
What do I need to do when clones arrive?
Upon arrival, immediately:
- Remove clones from packaging
- Transplant into your chosen medium as soon as possible
- Place under low-level lighting (fluorescent or LED strip)
- Keep high-power grow lights 4-6 feet away initially
- Avoid direct high-volume air circulation (prevents desiccation)
- Consider a humidity dome for 1-2 days if transitioning indoors
Clones are shipped in high humidity. Abrupt environmental changes cause shock. Gentle transition is essential.
Do you provide growing instructions?
Yes. Our comprehensive Cloning SOP page includes detailed mother plant prep, cutting techniques, rooting mediums, environmental controls, and troubleshooting. We also have a detailed acclimation protocol built into our chatbot, available 24/7.
I’m new to cloning. Will these work for me?
Our clones arrive fully rooted and hardened off—the hardest part is already done. If you can transplant a plant and provide basic light and water, you can succeed. We recommend reading our Cloning SOP and acclimation guide before your clones arrive. If you have questions, ask our chatbot or email us.
Can I grow these indoors? Outdoors?
Yes to both. Our clones adapt to indoor and outdoor environments. For indoor: provide appropriate lighting and environmental controls. For outdoor: start clones shaded and gradually acclimate to full sun over 7-10 days. Each cultivar has slightly different preferences—check individual product pages for strain-specific recommendations.
Backorders
What’s a backorder?
When a strain is out of stock, you can backorder it. Backordered clones are guaranteed to be cut, plugged, and rooted within 14 days or less. Your backorder ships on our next available shipping date once ready. Backorders cost the same as in-stock orders.
How urgent should I be about backordering?
Very. 95% of our out-of-stock strains are currently cut, plugged, and in the rooting process. If you backorder, you reserve a clone from the next batch. If you wait, you risk missing that batch and waiting another 2+ weeks. Complete your backorder transaction immediately—don’t wait.
Can I mix backorder and in-stock strains in one order?
Yes. Backorder and in-stock strains can ship together in the same order once the backorder batch is ready.
What if a backorder strain gets delayed?
We guarantee backordered clones within 14 days maximum. If an unexpected delay occurs, we’ll contact you and discuss options (usually a discount or free strain replacement).
